Windows Phone is the latest mobile operating system developed by Microsoft and is the successor to the Windows Mobile platform. Launched in 2010 Windows Phone takes a new approach to the mobile user interface replacing the standard grid of icons found on the iPhone and Android with Microsoft’s new Metro interface, a tile based design which puts the information you need at your fingertips. On 11th February 2011 Microsoft announced their partnership with Nokia to bring a new range of Windows Phone powered smart phones to the marketplace. The partnership will make Windows Phone the primary operating system on all new Nokia smart phones.
While the market share for Windows Phone is still smaller than iOS or Android, Microsoft’s long term strategy of creating a unified interface across all of their platforms and deeper integration between Windows 8 and Windows phone will make the platform a compelling choice for new smart phone users.
